After seeing a Facebook post about the restoration efforts at Chloe/St. Mary Cemetery, Ms. Miller reached out to us about her aunt, Debbie L. Randle (Sept. 5, 1955 – Jan. 12, 1990), believed to be among the last known individuals buried at Chloe Cemetery.

Ms. Miller shared that her mother, Debbie’s sister, had once tried to visit the cemetery but found it so overgrown they could not even locate an entrance to reach her resting place. Recently, Ms. Miller met Terry A. O’Neal and Jed Duhon of CAACPA at the cemetery while her mother guided us by phone through memories of where her sister Debbie may be buried.

Through tears, Ms. Miller said, “My aunty was my person, and I miss her deeply to this day.”

Stories like this remind us that this work is about more than clearing land. It is about restoring dignity, memory, and access for families who simply want to honor their loved ones again.

Ms. Miller plans to join us as a volunteer during our May 30 cleanup effort. ❤️
